When more than one player remains in the hand, a second round of betting is required. This is often referred to as a showdown, or “showdown.” The last player to bet wins the pot. After this, all other players must show their cards. If there is still a tie, the highest unmatched card breaks the tie.
There are many variations of poker, and the rules vary depending on the type of poker being played. In a stud game, for instance, the player who has the best five-card hand is the winner. In a draw poker game, the player is given an opportunity to discard up to three cards. A player can draw two extra cards from the undealt portion of the pack. Afterward, he or she must make a bet with the new cards.
In some countries, a short pack of cards is used. This can be problematic for players who are trying to get the maximum value out of their bets. In other places, the deck is not shuffled, but simply placed in a plastic box. The dealer then cuts the deck.
